screens4printing news

Northern Ireland and EU customers

17 December 2024

The new EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) requires that we have a nominated person within the EU to be responsible for validating the risks and safety aspects of any products we sell within the EU or Northern Ireland. Unfortunately, the cost of this is far more than we can justify as a small business with only a few sales into the EU.
The law comes into effect from 13th December, so we won't be able to sell to our friends in the EU & NI from that date.

We're sure the rules were not intended to hurt little businesses like ours or the many artists & small businesses we provide screens for, but, sadly, there’s nothing we can do about it.

If you are in Northern Ireland or the EU, we hope we will see you at the Festival of Quilts so you can stock up …. Or maybe you have a kind friend in the UK who will buy you a present!

Thank you so much for your custom over the years.

See us at thread festival

22 April 2024

We'll be having a stand in conjunction with InStitches at thread... a festival of textiles at Farnham Maltings on Saturday 8th June, and we will also be teaching a workshop.

Our Introduction to Screen Printing workshop is a great place to start if you've always wanted to explorse screen printing but didn't know where to start. We'll be using our thermal screens with textile screen printing ink to print onto cotton fabric. Once heat set with an iron your unique fabric will be ready to use - what will you make with yours?

Places are limited, so to book yours head over to the Farnham Maltings website and we'll see you there!

Sad news

7 July 2023

Today we remember and celebrate the life of Christine Chester, who passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday 20th June surrounded by her family.

Many of you will have spoken to Christine, either in person or by email, during her time as one of the owners of screens4printing; she was always ready to give advice to help customers get the best from their designs and was so patient with Hazel and me when we were learning the ropes after taking over. Together with her co-owners, Christine masterminded the testing and introduction of greyscale screens and many of the newer designs in the library. She was a talented artist, an inspirational educator and our friend, we will miss her.

Despite her failing health, Christine was fully active in the preparations for this year's Creative Textile Studio at the Festival of Quilts and we so hoped she would be well enough to be there with us.

Christine was a generous teacher and mentor to so many people; her influence will continue to guide the creative work of her students and friends for many years to come.

Price increase

6 June 2023

It’s great to be able to keep screens4printing alive and thriving. We know that the business provides a valuable service to individual artists and craftspeople and many other small businesses like ourselves – we’ve been amazed by the variety of designs we’ve made in the short time since we took over, and the range of uses you have for them.

Unfortunately, due to the current economic climate, we have been receiving huge price increases in supplies, packaging and utilities, which until now have been absorbed by the business.

We have to make sure that screens4printing remains viable, and realistically this means we will have to increase our prices for screens and inks from the third week in June. We wanted to be able to give you some advance warning so that if you’ve been considering buying screens or ink you have chance to do that before the price increases.

We understand that this is not good news: we have thought long and hard but are no longer able to avoid it. In order to continue to offer a competitive service to all our valued customers we’ve kept the increase as small as possible.

Thank you for continuing to support our small creative business, we really appreciate it.

Introducing...

20 November 2022

Hazel & TerryJust stopping by to introduce ourselves...We are Hazel and Terry, you might know us already as the textile artists behind InStitches Creative Textile Courses and now we’re delighted also to be running Screens4Printing.

When we ordered our latest batch of thermal screens for our demos in the Creative Textile Studio at Festival of Quilts in August, little did we know that just three months later we would be the proud owners of the business!

Set up as thermofaxscreens.com by Claire Higgot in 2008, following a change of technology and ownership in 2018, it was re-branded as screens4printing. Now, having grown and developed the business, and notably introduced the greyscale screen, Christine, Christina and Sarah are 'retiring' to focus on their own work and we are delighted to have been invited to take it on. We would have hated for it to disappear completely as thermal screens are such a useful addition to our creative work.

We started on November 1st and have received lots of encouraging comments from well-wishers on IG and FB, and plenty of orders from our lovely customers here. It's going to be a learning curve, but we are enjoying making screens, answering questions and learning the ropes. Most importantly we will ensure that we achieve a balance between InStitches and screens4printing so that everything gets done to the best of our ability.

Looking forward to working with you on your creative journey in the future.
